Preparing for pregnancy and not drinking during pregnancy is common sense for mothers. Can the prospective dads drink freely?
A large -scale epidemiology study based on 520,000 Chinese couples tells you: No!
Studies have shown that drinking before pregnancy may increase the risk of children’s birth defects significantly. The internal reason may be that drinking affects sperm cells and supporting genetic modification.Related papers (Doi: 10.1001/Jamapediatrics.2021.0291) was recently published in "American Medical Association Magazine -Pediatrics".
The study was completed by Zhou Qiongjie, a research group of Zhou Qiongjie, Affiliated to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University. The thesis author Zhou Qiongjie suggested that both parents guaranteed at least 3 to 6 months before pregnancy.
There are defects in the family, and my father’s drinking rate before pregnancy is significantly high
Studies have shown that about 1/3 of the couples who have a fertility plan within 6 months, about 1/3 of their father have drinking drinking before pregnancy, that is, drinking at least once a week.
Among expectant mothers, this ratio is only 3.3%.
During the 42 -day follow -up after childbirth, 609 families reported that their children had birth defects such as cleft lip and palate, congenital heart disease, body malformations, and digestive tract malformations.
In these defective babies’ families, the father’s drinking rate was 40.4%, which was significantly higher than the average level.
Among families who did not have a child birth defect, the father’s drinking rate before pregnancy was 31.5%.
After the age of the woman’s age, the woman’s smoking, drinking, and folic acid supplement, the risk of birth defects caused by alcohol caused by drinking alcohol increased by 35%, and the risk of "cleft lip and palate" increased greater.(Researchers remind that considering factors such as samples, follow -up time, and diagnostic methods, the risk increase data needs to be further studied and verified.)
Researcher: expectant parents should quit drinking at least 3 to 6 months
Zhou Qiongjie, deputy chief physician of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, recently accepted an interview with the China Science News and made further interpretations.
"China Science News": Where is the innovation and highlights of this research?
In fact, the study of the epidemiology of men during pregnancy has been very lacking. An important reason is that the proportion of drinking before pregnancy can be as high as 30%, and it is difficult for researchers to rule out the impact of the factors of mothers.
In contrast, the proportion of Chinese expectant mothers to drink is only about 3%.This makes the Chinese population a precious model for studying this issue.
"China Science News": Where is the social significance of research?
What we see is that expectant mothers quit smoking and drinking are indeed consensus. Most of the prospective dads quit smoking, and the importance of drinking is not so clear. From the point of view of a father who has a pregnancy plan for pregnancy, it is very meaningful to call on the public father to quit drinking to the public’s father’s abstinence.
"China Science News": How long should the prospective dad quit alcohol before the wife’s pregnancy?
Zhou Qiongjie: There are actually few existing research conclusions in this area.In ethical considerations, it is almost impossible to conduct random control research and evaluation to avoid drinking.
For safety reasons, both parents are advised to guarantee smoking and drinking at least 3 to 6 months before pregnancy.
"China Science News": What is the relationship between drinking on children’s health, with the type of wine and the frequency and number of drinking?
Zhou Qiongjie: The information about drinking in our research is mainly collected through the questionnaire. The information about the types of alcohol, the frequency of drinking, and the amount of drinking are not collected in this project. Therefore, more research is needed to pay attention to the above issues.
The data of this study comes from free pre -pregnancy health inspection projects in 31 provinces in mainland China.Zhou Qiongjie’s team also launched other studies based on the project:
1. The relationship between father smoking before pregnancy and defects of birth defects in the child
Among the 142849 couples, 28.7%of the prospective dad had smoking, and 6.6%of their father’s smoking continued until early pregnancy.
The father who continues to smoke, the risk of congenital heart disease, limb abnormalities, abnormal digestive tract, and neuromuscular defects. Before pregnancy, husbands’ smoking behavior is relatively common. Specific father’s quitting or reducing smoking can significantly reduce the risk of child birth defects.
2. The prevalence of diabetes and regional differences in Chinese preparation women
Study on more than 2 million pregnant women across the country, it was found that 1.4% was diagnosed with diabetes and 12.9% was diagnosed with pre -diabetes.
The incidence of blood glucose abnormalities has obvious regional differences: the highest three regions are Jilin (26.4%), Fujian (24%) and Jiangxi (22.9%). The lowest three areas are Qinghai (7%), Heilongjiang (7.9%)And Shaanxi (8.5%).
It can be seen that the need for high blood sugar census before pregnancy has its necessity, and the relevant prevention strategies should be formulated according to the difference in the incidence of hypertrophic glucose in different regions.
